Norwich Veterinary Hospital is proud to support our local community and rescue partners by providing advanced medical and surgical care to animals in need. In collaboration with organizations such as All Paws on Deck, our team is committed to improving quality of life through compassionate, high-quality veterinary medicine, including orthopedic and complex surgical procedures.

In addition to medical and surgical support, Norwich Veterinary Hospital hosts and participates in annual community adoption events in partnership with local rescues. These events bring together adoptable pets, local vendors, and community members to promote animal welfare, responsible pet ownership, and support local small businesses. Through these events, we aim to help pets find homes while strengthening connections within our community.

Lyric

Lyric, a 12 week old rescue puppy from All Paws on Deck, was treated at Norwich Veterinary Hospital on March 13, 2026 after sustaining a traumatic injury that resulted in a long oblique fracture of the proximal tibia. Due to the nature of the fracture, surgical repair was recommended to ensure proper healing and prevent long-term complications.

Lyric underwent orthopedic surgery to stabilize the fracture. The procedure involved careful surgical exposure of the tibia and stabilization using cerclage wires in combination with a bone plate and screws to properly align and secure the fractured segments. Post-operative radiographs confirmed appropriate alignment of the implants.

Following surgery, Lyric was placed on a comprehensive recovery plan including antibiotics, pain management, anti-inflammatory support, and bandaging. With proper care and monitoring, she has a strong prognosis for healing and return to normal function.

Ophelia

Ophelia, a 6-year-old Chihuahua from All Paws on Deck, presented with bilateral medial patellar luxation (MPL), a condition affecting both hind limbs that can cause discomfort, limping, and decreased mobility. Her treatment plan was staged to allow for appropriate healing between procedures.

Ophelia underwent her first surgical correction on June 4, 2025, followed by a second procedure on September 10, 2025 to address the opposite limb. Each surgery focused on realignment and stabilization of the patella to restore normal knee function.

After both procedures, Ophelia was placed on a structured recovery plan including pain management, anti-inflammatory support, activity restriction, and a gradual return to normal mobility. She has shown significant improvement in comfort and function following completion of both surgeries.
